How it Happened
SMU got off to a slow start on the road again. Markus Kennedy and Nic Moore sparked the team in the first half with consistent scoring from Kennedy and timely three-point buckets from Moore. In the second half, SMU built a 10-point lead, but let it slip to four after USF got hot from three-point range. SMU then opened the lead back up to 12 before holding on to the finish for the win over the Bulls. SMU didn’t exactly get rid of USF like the team did against Tulane, but against a pesky Bulls team, Larry Brown will be happy to go 2-0 in the regular season vs. USF.
What it Means
SMU gets another road win and avenges the resume damaging loss the team suffered at the hands of the Bulls last year in Tampa. SMU remains in second place in the AAC with undefeated Tulsa ahead of the team.
Player of the Game
Markus Kennedy: It took the big man 26 minutes to miss from the floor and SMU needed his big performance. Kennedy finished with 22 points, seven rebounds and two assists.
SMU’s win tonight is the team’s fourth straight road win this year, the longest road winning streak for SMU under Larry Brown.
SMU closes January by hosting UCF on Saturday at 7 p.m. CT on ESPNU.
