PONY TRENDS

Even with a litany of disappointments, it has been a fun couple of weeks on the court; SMU has won six straight games and 14 of their last 15. The mustangs are 7-1 in conference play this season and Nic Moore is red hot. In two games last week, he averaged 23 points and 6.5 assists a game while shooting 57.9 percent from three-point range.

OPPONENT STRENGTHS

Listen, I do my best to be fair in my coverage and not be too biased…but the Bulls are 7-13 this season. I also try not to feed you all a bunch of BS, so I’m not going to sugar coat this and try to sell you on how “good” USF is…because they are not. But here is what they do anyway: 44 percent shooting from the floor, 27.7 percent from three-point range, they have a -5.8 scoring margin, -.5 rebounding margin, and a -1.3 turnover margin. I guess you could say their strength is losing at every statistical category. Too be fair, the Bulls did beat SMU 78-71 the last time they squared off in Florida, but that was over a year ago.

Three Players to Watch

Corey Allen Jr: Allen is averaging 14.5 points a game on 45 percent shooting and is USF’s only real outside shooting threat. Number four is firing at 34.8 percent from three-point range.

Ruben Guerrero: With Chris Perry out, Guerrero figures to get more minutes and has averaged 5.8 points and 3.9 rebounds on the season in 16 games. Guerroro is backed up by Jaleel Cousins, who will also see more minutes at 6-11.

Nehemias Morillo:If we are keeping with the Batman references, I suppose Morillo is Alfred. Almost averaging double digit scoring (9.5), Morillo has been a solid contributor for the Bulls all season long. Don’t sleep on him.

MATCHUP TO WATCH

Yanick Moreira vs Any Bulls Center: Last time SMU faced USF this season, Moreira shut down anyone USF put in at center. Not a single point came from the center position. The experimented at times with Bo Zeigler at the five, expect them to do a much of the same. Guerroro is 6-11 so that's good size for the Bulls inside so they might through a bunch of different looks at Moreira until they find something that works.

KEYS TO THE GAME

Do what you do: Its been working 14 out of the last 15. SMU shouldn’t have any problem with USF as long as they don’t completely overlook this game. Oh and hopefully they don’t forget how to rebound and protect the ball.
