Hot Button: Best Defensive Lineman

Scott and Billy argue for their picks for best defensive lineman in SMU's 2015 class!

Billy Embody arguing for Michael Scott

When the new SMU coaching staff was able to keep the twin brother of Delontae Scott from signing elsewhere after decommitting, it was a relief for SMU fans. Michael Scott is by far the best pass rusher in the class and while some see him more in a standup position, the Scout staff projects him as a defensive end. He’s got the frame to put on some weight and with some coaching, he has the athleticism to develop a nice mix of pass rushing moves. Scott should get into 3rd down passing situations at the very least as a freshman and as Scott puts on weight, he’ll develop into a solid every down player.

Scott Sanford arguing for Hunter Thedford

Thedford was thought to be a nice tight end prospect, but the Comanche senior committed to the Ponies as a defensive end, and the 6-foot-7, 228-pound Thedford has the framework to become a productive defensive player. With some added weight, Thedford could become a force off the edge for SMU, and his athleticism and long arms would only make him more dangerous. If Thedford can add a mean streak and a few pass rush moves, the defensive end could become a contributor for the Mustangs down the road.
