SENIOR YEAR STATS: 5 interceptions, 6 pass breaks, 83 tackles and 1 sack.
COMMITTED TO SMU OVER:Maryland SIDE NOTE: Clemons played a fair amount of wide receiver in high school before switching over to safety.
AUDIBLE: “It’s just a good school to attend there, I’m happy to have the chance to go to a school as prestigious as SMU and as for athletics I just want to get there and have a chance to contribute to the team.”
How Clemons fits
Clemons brings a playmaking ability to the back end of this defense. With Greenbauer gone, SMU will look to Clemons to make some plays for this defense and compete for one of the safety spots early on. Clemons will fit well early on for this team and bring an aggressive nature that they have missed.
What Clemons brings
Clemons will bring a lot to this team all over the field. After finishing his senior season with 5 interceptions and 83 tackles, Clemons should help this team in both the running game and in the passing game as a solid tackler. He could also develop into someone SMU can bring on a blitz but will need to get a little bit faster.
What to Expect Freshman Year
I would expect Clemons to compete for early playing time and possible be in a rotation with Shakiel Randolph and Darrion Richardson until he gets acquainted with the speed of the game. That shouldn’t take long however. Once conference play rolls around, look for Clemons to be a guy that can make a lot of plays for this team.
Career Expectations for Clemons
Clemons will be a good player going forward for SMU. Expect Clemons to be a three-year starter for SMU, as well as, possibly getting a couple starts this season. Clemons is going to be a consistent player for SMU that will find the football and get his share of interceptions for SMU.
