POSITION RANKING: NR SENIOR YEAR STATS: 301 rushes for 2449 yards and 31 touchdowns. 48 receptions for 576 and 2 touchdowns.
COMMITTED TO SMU OVER: Memphis SIDE NOTE: Won offensive MVP of the district for his performance senior year.
AUDIBLE: I know that I am surrounded by a great community, close to home and we’re going to have a winning season because coach Morris’ is a great coach and the coaching staff around him are great coaches as well so I feel like its about to turn around and I’m excited to be a part of it.
How Jones fits
Jones is a great fit for this team in the sense he’s going to be able to contribute in a lot of different ways. Jones brings a lot of speed to this team that will help them use him out of the backfield, as a receiver or possibly as a return man. SMU had virtually no speed at running back last season so adding a guy like Jones to go with Braeden West in coach Morris’ new offense will be dynamic and should help this team score some points right away.
What Jones brings
Jones is a guy that can do pretty much anything for this team and contribute right away. Jones also brings a homerun threat for this team given his impressive speed, as well as, his rushing totals tell you he’ll be able to make some big plays to this team. He does need to be careful that he doesn’t try to force it and make a big play but he should learn.
What to Expect Freshman Year
While many freshman will likely contribute this season, Jones should be one of the biggest contributors right off the bat. There should not be much of an adjustment for Jones although he will likely need to be careful about trying to do too much. SMU does have a few running backs already in Durall, Nlemchi, and Gresham so Jones will likely join that mix.
Career Expectations for Jones
Expect Jones to be a consistent contributor for this team going forward. He will likely split carries with Braeden West unless one takes a hold of the job but expect Jones to be someone who can provide some big plays for this team in Chad Morris’ offense.
