How it Happened

It was close for much of the game but SMU pulled away with a huge 15-0 run to take control in the second half. SMU ended up walking away with a 68-57 victory however it wasn’t easy early on. Tulsa did make a run at the end to make it a game but just couldn’t over come the run from SMU. After struggling with turnovers on the road for much of the season, SMU did a great job with only 4 turnovers in the first half. This was largely due to the play of Nic Moore who had a great first half with 9 points and 5 assists while only turning it over twice. He finished the game with 23 points and 7 assists. Despite Moore having a great game, the story for the second straight game was also Cannen Cunningham who looked confident throughout finishing the game with 16 points and 3 blocks. The second half was much of the same story early on before Nic Moore led the Mustangs on a big 15-0 run to give them a 58-43 lead. After setting up his teammates in the first half, he took over in the second hitting big shot after big shot to lead the Mustangs along with dishing a couple nice assists to Cunningham and Moreira.

What it Means

This was a game SMU had to win to stay in the conference title conversation. After picking up a huge road win, SMU is now once again within striking distance of Tulsa as they head down the stretch of conference play. More importantly for the Mustangs, they picked up another big win on the road.

Player of the Game

Nic Moore: After struggling the last few games, Nic Moore did absolutely everything SMU needed tonight. Moore finished the game with 23 points and 7 assists.

Side Note

Nic Moore battled through a lot tonight in SMU’s victory. With just over 9 minutes Nic Moore briefly headed to the locker room after diving for a loose ball. Moore was not out long however as he came back shortly thereafter and led SMU on a quick burst to give them an 11 point lead. Nic Moore then came up limping again on a separate play with only 2 minutes to go in the game that forced SMU to take a timeout.

What's Next?

SMU heads out on the road Thursday for a matchup against Houston at 8 p.m. central time.
