Seth Greenberg Q&A

PONY TRENDS

SMU is coming off a tight finish against Houston after building a big lead, but SMU was able to pull out the win. The Mustangs got production from all over the floor with Markus Kennedy, Nic Moore and Ryan Manuel all having double-figure games and made big shots down the stretch. Kennedy finished with free throws, Moore created shots for himself and Manuel did it all. The Mustangs got a tough road win and swept the Cougars in the regular season following their big win over Tulsa a week ago.

OPPONENT STRENGTHS

Connecticut is coming off their biggest win of the season arguably by dismantling the former top team in the conference. The Huskies dominated Tulsa from start to finish and made a statement that Connecticut can make a run possibly in the AAC tournament and get hot down the stretch to possibly earn a tournament bid.

Three Players to Watch

Ryan Boatright: Boatright is one of the other preseason AAC player of the year candidates and is having a tremendous year, averaging 18 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

Amida Brimah: It’ll be Angola vs. Ghana in the low post when Brimah and Yanick Moreira face off. Brimah is averaging 10 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.2 blocks per game and at 7-feet will be a great matchup with Moreira.

Daniel Hamilton: Hamilton is averaging 10 points and 7.1 rebounds per game for the Huskies and the 6-7 forward is going to be a matchup issue for SMU since he can stretch the floor and also shoot from outside.

MATCHUP TO WATCH

Nic Moore vs. Ryan Boatright. Just like last season, SMU will match its All-AAC point guard versus Connecticut’s All-AAC point guard. Boatright and Moore are the two leaders of their teams and can take over a game when they need to. Should be a tremendous matchup of two of the better guards in the country.

KEYS TO THE GAME

Turnovers and quick start. It’s really the same story for SMU if the team can move the ball well and get the Moody crowd into the game, the Mustangs should have a statement win. SMU can’t come out with a slow start and allow Connecticut to hang around. If SMU gets off to a quick start, SMU should roll to victory in front of what should be the best atmosphere of the year.

What they’re saying

Cannen Cunningham: "For us that have been around for a while it's a big deal just because the change that has gone on around this program. And then also the young guys I guess; the guys that grew up watching gameday."

Sterling Brown: "To me it's like none other. With The crowd, they just get so into it and the stadium isn't that big so it feels even more compact on the court. It's great to see the students and all the people from Dallas supporting us."
