Daniel Hamilton and the rest of the UConn forwards. Hamilton was limited to only 8 points on 2-9 shooting.
SMU did not shoot the ball well today but were able to get a lot of buckets on second chance points. The Mustangs out rebounded UConn 43-30 and had 14 offensive rebounds to only 7 for UConn. SMU was able to cash in with 12 second chance points, a lot of these coming before Brimah was back in the game in the second half.
Yes Rodney Purvis had another monster day against SMU with 29 points, but when he is the only one in double figures that says something. The Mustangs held the Huskies to 33% shooting and 24% on threes. Although he was banged up, SMU did a fantastic job on Ryan Boatright who finished the game 1-12 for only 7 points before he fouled out. The only other player for the Huskies to get above 5 points was Daniel Hamilton with 8 but he struggled too.
3. Championship Defense
1. Nic MooreIt was a tough day for Nic Moore who finished with 11 points on 3-14 shooting. Moore also struggled to contain Rodney Purvis who went off for 29 points while being guarded by Moore most of the game. The one bright spot for Moore however in this game was that he didn’t turn the ball over.
SMU struggled mightily shooting the three today going 1-9 from behind the arc. The Mustangs were able to cover this up with solid play inside especially from Kennedy and Ben Moore but today was one of those days where shots were just not falling for Moore, Manuel and Emelogu.
