Chad Morris Press Conference

Van Malone Press Conference

Ben Hicks looked like a freshman today. Hicks threw off his back foot numerous times and overthrew a few balls as well. Granted, there was a solid amount of pressure today on Hicks, but the forced balls were not a good sign. The offensive line certainly needs to improve, but Hicks probably had one of his worst days. It's clear now that Matt Davis has the starting quarterback role in his hands and unless something crazy happens, will emerge in the fall as the starter. Darrel Colbert's added running ability brings a new dimension to the race as well as he continues to make a strong push for the backup job.

Offensive Line

Coach Fry changed things up a little today, rolling out a starting five of Chauncey Briggs, Daniel McCarty, William Barns, Taylor Lasecki, and Kris Weeks. Overall, there was definitely still some improvement from the unit, but there's still a lot of work to be done. Briggs and McCarty held there own on the left side, but Barns and Lasecki struggled to get movement on their double teams, while Weeks got pushed around during his pass protection a number of times. That being said, the running game looked a little better today with Daniel Gresham breaking off two solid runs, and while the quarterbacks did still face pressure, they had more time in general to make a pass. From what I've seen so far, however, Braylon Hyder and Evan Brown will have ample opportunity to make a run at the starting guard positions once they return from injury.
