“Coach Loepp has been talking to me and they really want me and like me a lot, they really want me bad so I’m visiting the campus the first week of June,” Mahone said, “Just going up there to meet coach Morris in person, they’re really excited about me and I’m really excited too.”
Mahone already knows he has a very good relationship with the coaching staff but the 6-0, 203-pound running back would like to get a better idea of the general attitude around campus aside from the staff.
“Just the atmosphere, do I feel comfortable, does my mom feel comfortable with it, do I like it with just the atmosphere of the whole school and seeing the relationships,” the Prosper running back said, “I already feel I have a great relationship with a lot of the coaches at SMU so building a relationship is not the issue, just go out there and see the atmosphere and see the facilities and see how it is.”
While it is not necessarily a requirement, Mahone would like to stay in the state of Texas or close to home if he can.
“It would be good because my mom is close, I think she wants me to stay in Texas, I don’t mind leaving Texas but I would prefer to stay in Texas and stay close to home so that I can come see the family whenever I want and it’s nice that SMU is like 30 minutes away so that’s pretty good,” Mahone said.
SMU got a big boost a couple of weeks ago when one of Mahone’s close friends, 2016 Milton HS (Ga.) quarterback David Moore committed to the Mustangs.
“David’s my boy, I’m happy for him, I’m happy that he committed to SMU, we talked a lot about going there and having a little duo,” Mahone said, “He’s really excited that they offered me and he really wants me to go there too, so we’re excited to see what SMU is going to be like, we can be sort of like hometown heroes is what he said.”
Mahone admitted knowing Moore is going to be attending SMU will play a positive role when it comes time for him to make a decision on where he is going attend school.
“Definitely, David Moore is a good player so him committing to SMU is playing a role,” Mahone said.
It was a busy spring for the local running back himself as he picked up a handful of new offers.
“My spring went great, I picked up eight offers, so I feel it went pretty good, the practices went pretty good and I met a lot of coaches and I just had fun and it was a really good time,” Mahone said.
“Boise State, that is a big offer right there, it’s a really big offer, Boise State I really like them a lot, it’s a good school and they won a lot of games, it’s a good school, I just like Boise State a lot, the atmosphere with the blue turf and all that is great,” Mahone said, “Boise State is on my list right now so I’m really excited about that offer, the only thing about it is, it’s in Idaho, that’s far but I won’t have any problem with that, we’ll see what my mom thinks, but I’m excited about the offer.”
