2017 OL Huhn picks up SMU offer

Billy talked with 2017 John Jay (Tex.) OL Matthew Huhn, who picked up an SMU offer last night.

It's not often you can find a high-schooler that can put up 1,000 pounds on the leg press, but San Antonio (Tex.) John Jay offensive lineman Matthew Huhn can. SMU took notice and became the second school to offer the talented lineman.

SMU offensive line coach Dustin Fry first made contact last week and then followed it up with an offer.

"First time I talked to him was Wednesday and I got a really good vibe from him, but other than that, I saw him at my school once and talked to him on the phone too. Other than, it's a pretty strong relationship early," Huhn said. "He said they wanted to offer and that they liked what they saw. He said there's a junior day on February 20 and they wanted to see me up there."

As far as SMU, Huhn doesn't know much though.

"It's all pretty new. Other than that it's up in Dallas, I don't know much at all," Huhn said.

Rice (offered today) and Baylor are Huhn's other offers, who was silent with Huhn for a couple years and then offered recently.

"Baylor actually came to me freshman year with a camp invite and I went and competed and did good. I went again and had another good time and then were basically silent for two years," Huhn said. "I'm meeting with the coach that offered either Monday or Tuesday."

As far as a school, Huhn is looking for a school that can help him on and off the field.

"I'm looking for a good academic school for engineering. I'm looking for a football team that knows how to play and has good brotherhood and chemistry with coaches that treat me well and are going to push me while I get a bond with them."

On the field, Huhn is athletic and physical, which allows him to take care of most opponents he faces.

"I don't know if I play a specific type of way. Pass is going to be a bit more passive and run is going to be a bit more aggressive. I'm just going to do what I need to do to get the job done."

TCU, Oklahoma State, Houston and Colorado have also shown interest in Huhn, who will also trip to Baylor on January 30. Huhn visited OSU last weekend. He has no timeline on a decision.

"I'm going to see what offers I can get and I'm going to take my time with this. I don't want to rush into this."
