How Sutton fits

SMU’s secondary is wide open next year and that should allow Sutton to see the field early for SMU. With Sutton’s speed and ability to play the ball in the air well, he should help limit the big plays that have hurt SMU tremendously the past two years.

What Sutton brings

Sutton is talented on the field but he also brings a lot of intangible characteristics that will help SMU next season. The corner from Cedar Hill brings a certain confidence and intensity that has just been missing from SMU’s secondary the past couple of seasons, probably since Kenneth Acker left.

What to Expect Freshman Year

I expect Sutton to contribute right away for SMU and help limit big plays throughout the season. Granted, with a learning curve that Sutton still has to go through he is going to give up some bigger plays, however with the speed to catch up to many of the receivers in the AAC, Sutton will be able to cover that up to a certain degree and make an impact right away for SMU.

Career Expectations for Sutton

Once Sutton gets to go through SMU’s strength program and can continue to build on his current frame, he is going to be a key piece for SMU in their rebuild. He already has the speed and tremendous coverage ability but is just in need of a few more adjustments before he takes off. This is a great get for this staff and one that should be a leader early on for SMU.
