2017 Katy lineman recaps SMU visit

Billy talked with 2017 Katy (Tex.) James Taylor lineman Camron Horry about his SMU junior day visit.

2017 Katy (Tex.) James Taylor lineman Camron Horry took in SMU's campus for the first time on junior day last month and came away blown away by the visit, but especially the campus and coaches.

"It was great. The campus is... I don't even know how to describe it. They told my mom and me that they spend a lot of money on the plants and stuff, but that doesn't sum up how beautiful it is," Horry said. "They mainly just got us to meet the recruiting coach in our area. We got to spend some time with the coaches after watching their highlight video."

Horry met all of the coaches and talked with Joe Craddock and Dustin Fry, who are leading the recruitment of him.

"Just life in general and living life to the fullest," Horry said. "They were expressing how much they really want me to go to SMU and all it takes is one player to really change that whole program."

Chad Morris is the coach that Horry hears from the most though and the head coach sends cool pictures of Horry to him all the time.

"It's pretty casual. He sends me these really cool photoshopped pictures of me. They say things like, 'live life in the limelight.' I thought that was pretty cool."

On Horry's visit, SMU got to sell their plan and message to him more as well as reminding him what going to college is all about.

"It gave them a chance to really explain what they were doing and what they have to offer me in a college experience. One thing coach Morris said was you're going to graduate. You have no choice. You will graduate, which I thought was pretty cool. Mainly coaches just think about football, but coach Morris really stressed about education."

Outside of Morris' message, SMU's football facility stood out because of how big it was and everything it has to offer.

"The whole facility was cool. Just the setup of it. It looks like a normal building, but it's actually like levels in a video game the way it's setup."

Horry has picked up offers from UTSA, Louisiana-Monroe, Purdue, McNeese State and Illinois since being offered first by SMU. Horry plans to visit Houston over spring break and wants to return for an SMU spring practice.

As far as a timeline, Horry doesn't have a timeline because he knows spring evals are coming and he'll likely pick up more offers.
