2017 Cedar Park CB continues to blow up

Demo talked with 2017 Cedar Park (Tex.) cornerback Javelin Guidry about his SMU interest and recruitment.

Things are heating up for 2017 Cedar Park cornerback Javelin Guidry as he is picking up offers left and right.

The 5-10, 180 pound corner holds offers from Arizona State, Houston, Iowa State, Navy, Oregon State, SMU, Tulane, and Washington State.

“It is great getting these offers,” Guidry says. “But I stay humble and keep working to try and be better every day. I got to keep trying to be the best I can be and hopefully I’ll get some more offers.“

A couple weeks ago, before SMU’s spring game, Guidry made his way to the Hilltop and watched the Mustangs scrimmage.

“I really liked their practice,” he said. “The d-line was getting after it and it was actually a scrimmage. I thought it was going to just be a practice, but we got to see them scrimmage.”

It was easier for Guidry to enjoy his visit after he received an offer from SMU a couple days earlier.

“It was the Monday before the visit and Coach Jess Loepp had me call him and offered me,” Guidry said. “I think Loepp is a good coach. He is a family man and cares about the players a lot. I talked to him and coach Van Malone a lot. They would call me and ask how track and how school was going.”

Guidry is making sure to carefully consider every school he receives an offer from and he’s looked at SMU enough to know that it is a good school and its football program is only getting better.

“I like the academics of SMU,” Guidry said. “And it is in Dallas, which is a fun city. The team seems really close, like a family. They are definitely going in the right direction. They will continue to get better every year under coach Chad Morris—they are starting to adopt his culture and I can see them getting better.”

As of right now, Guidry is focusing on finishing up the track season and likely won’t be making any visits until it is over.
