2017 Denton Ryan linebacker Delano Robinson picked up his second offer from SMU after Jess Loepp got him to give him a call through his coach.
“Just from my coach and then I contacted coach Loepp. He was asking how it would feel to get an offer from SMU and I said I’d be very excited,” Robinson said.
Loepp asked what Robinson’s three main things to look at for college were and Robinson explained.
“He explained to me how it worked with SMU for my three things. 1. How do I fit in the football program, 2. how would I be able to pursue my career goal in the medical field and 3. how is the environment,” Robinson said. “He told me the pre-med program is good and that I’d be a great fit in their program.”
Loepp has made a good impression on Robinson so far, who is most impressed with how much interest Loepp is showing in him.
“He seems like a really good coach and a great guy. He was telling me what he liked about me and how he’s really interested in me. He was telling me how physical I am and how they need that physical aspect in their program and stuff like that.”
SMU sees Robinson at the Star linebacker, which he’d enjoy because of its versatility.
“I like that. I think I could really fit well there,” the 6-foot, 185-pound linebacker said.
Robinson went for a quick visit for a game this fall and said he was impressed by the history of the program.
“I went for a game with one of my friends. We got to see the trophy room, which was pretty cool.”
Stephen F. Austin is Robinson’s other offer and Air Force and Abilene Christian have shown interest.
Robinson is a true team player and is just about trying to help his team the most.
“Just being a playmaker and I’m not selfish. I think of the team before I think of myself. I play to win.”
Robinson wants to make a decision around mid-to-late summer.
