2017 running back Kayce Medlock planning another SMU visit

Hatts talked with 2017 Arp running back Kayce Medlock about his SMU interest and the latest on his summer plans.

It was not news 2017 Arp HS (Tex.) running back Kayce Medlock was expecting to receive, but was thrilled to hear a couple months ago he had received an offer from SMU.

“I was very surprised,” Medlock said, “Before they offered me we talked for about two weeks straight then we went quiet, two weeks later my coach called me and told me to call them and I was like ‘Oh my god.’”

When offering Medlock, the coaching staff continued to heap praise on Medlock and his vision that he runs the ball with.

“[They said] I was a perfect fit in their offense, and that I could really change some things down there with my speed, they just really like me, they said I run well with the football and they love my vision and stuff like that,” Medlock said.

The 5-9, 190-pound back has already been up to campus multiple times and was planning to take another trip this summer.

“I’ve already been up there like three times but I plan on going back up there this summer,” Medlock said, “It’s just a great campus, it’s very nice, it’s big and one thing I liked about the team was their team chemistry, the brotherhood, they all respected each other or if someone made a mistake they would make sure they didn’t make that mistake the next time.”

Medlcok has developed a close relationship with a number of coaches on the staff because of the enthusiasm they have shown towards him throughout the process so far.

“I like them, I really like them, they’ve shown me a bunch of love,” Medlock said, “It just shows that they care about me and that they really want to see me succeed.”

The Arp running back feels his game is in a good spot right now but admitted he could probably work on his footwork although if you gave him the option he would rather run right through you.

“I’m very fast, I’m strong, I love contact, I really don’t have a weakness but if I say I did I could get my footwork better, juking and stuff,” Medlock said, “I really don’t like juking, when you lower your head I’m going to power in too and we’re going to see who’s got more power, I’m very explosive.”

After receiving an offer last week from Stephen F. Austin, Medlock currently has offers from Army, Colorado, Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulane to go along with his offer from SMU.
