Although 2017 Calvary Christian Academy (FL) center Victor Uyaelunmo hasn’t yet spoken to SMU, he was thrilled to receive the news he had been offered by the Mustangs.
“I thought it was really cool, I don’t really know much about SMU,” Uyaelunmo said, “But I’m glad I got the offer.”
Although his knowledge about the school is limited, the 6-11 center certainly is well aware of their Hall of Fame head coach Larry Brown.
“It’s a blessing getting offered by coach Brown,” Uyaelunmo said, “I haven’t really spoken to them a lot.”
There are a couple of areas however though that the Florida center, originally from Nigeria, is curious to learn about.
“The basketball team, the school academically and the school’s size are things I want to know more about them,” Uyaelunmo said.
This is an exciting time for the Scout.com three-star center who currently has offers from SMU, Vanderbilt, Columbia, Rutgers, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Pittsburgh, USC, Memphis, Florida State, Miami, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech, Florida International, Tennessee and Florida.
Although the center and SMU’s relationship is in the early stages, he is excited to see where it goes in the next couple of weeks.
“I really would love to learn about SMU, but they just started recruiting me so I don’t know anything about them yet,” Uyaelunmo said.
Uyaelunmo was noncommittal about if there was any school that was out in front for him. The lanky center is due to make a decision on when he's going to cut down his list at the end of this month.
The lanky center was up and down at times this past summer only averaging five points and six rebounds per game for Nike South Beach. He did, however, show his upside in the last game of the EYBL season with an 18 point, 10 rebound performance against California Supreme.
