SMU Basketball Player Profile: Jonathan Wilfong

Demo profiles SMU guard Jonathan Wilfong as the fan favorite enters his senior season.

Position: Guard
Size: 6-2, 185
Year: Senior
High School: Memphis University School
Hometown: Memphis, Tennessee.

Wilfong was a walk-on coming out of high school in Memphis and averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game during his senior year. Over his high school career, Wilfong averaged 6.7 points per game in three seasons. The Memphis guard also played AAU with the Bluff City Legends.

2015-16 Recap

Last season, Wilfong played in seventeen games and made one start[!]. He scored eight points, while nabbing five rebounds, making a steal and dishing out two assists. Wilfong made his first career assist against Memphis but his high point was probably draining a three at the end of a win over East Carolina. Or maybe it was when he dropped three points, a rebound, and a steal in a career-high 21 minutes against NIchols.

Grade: A

Outlook in 2016-17

Y’all ready for the season of Wilfong!?!? Wilfong is about to hit all the buckets and play all of the minutes. Sadly that probably [most definitely] isn’t going to happen. Look we all know what Wilfong does for this team and how important he is to it. You need guys like Wilfong to go all out during practice to push the rest of the team. I can’t remember SMU’s bench celebrating anything more than when Wilfong drains a corner three or throws down a rim-rattling dunk. I gave him an ‘A’ for 2015 because he knows his role on the team and he’s continued to embrace it fully.
