Froling committed to SMU over Illinois, Colorado and Arizona in the spring after taking his visits. SMU head coach Tim Jankovich led the recruitment at the time for Froling as the associate head coach, making multiple trips over to Australia to see Froling. That impressed Froling as not many coaches make the trip down for that. Once Froling made his trip over to the states, SMU impressed him on his visit for a game and that really sealed the deal at the end of it for him.
Froling is expected to step in and get serious minutes in the front court right off the bat for SMU. With Ben Moore and Semi Ojeleye as the only two front court players alongside Froling. While Sterling Brown has stepped in to play some version of the four in the past, SMU will rely on this trio in the front court. With Froling already having battled a foot injury during fall camp, it's more important than ever that he get healthy and get in shape with the season just days away.
If Froling can get healthy, he can contribute with his ability to be a stretch-4 and potentially as he gets in better shape, physically inside. If Froling can provide SMU with solid minutes off the bench, that'll allow Tim Jankovich to be creative even more so with his lineup if he wants to go with a bigger lineup. Froling is a key to SMU's front court success this season with his ability to give Moore and Ojeleye a breather.
