SENIOR YEAR STATS: 45 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks.

COMMITTED TO SMU OVER: Loveless committed on May 11 and held FBS offers from Houston and Texas State.

SIDE NOTE: Loveless is a huge Connor McGregor fan and admires his confidence.

AUDIBLE: “SMU is great. I love the campus and the facilities, but the thing that caught my attention was the coaches. They are great men that can teach me much more than just football.”

How Loveless Fits

SMU has a ton of bodies on the defensive line with 14 players returning for next season. At 260, loveless already has a good baseline coming into SMU and could easily add more size and move around the defensive line if need be.

What Loveless Brings

He is the kind of athlete that makes plays. He gets his hands in throwing lanes and can punch the ball out as he wraps up. He has enough speed for an outside rush and a really solid inside move. Cypress Ranch moved him around a lot and he showed the ability to make something happen no matter where he lined up.

Expectations for Freshman Year

He will bring some depth to SMU’s defensive front. The Mustangs have a lot of younger players on the defensive line, so one would think most positions would be open to completion. No matter how many snaps he gets, Loveless can make an impact.

Career Expectations for Loveless

Loveless’ career is probably most dependent on how he takes to SMU’s weight program and what position he ends up playing the most. He showed his versatility in high school, so he could line up inside or outside—it really depends on how much bigger and stronger he gets moving forward. If everything continues trending upward, he could be a starter in a year or two.
