SMU’s 12-game 2017 football schedule is out.
The Mustangs will play four nonconference games and eight American Conference games. Seven of the games are at home, and five are on the road.
SMU’s season opens at home on Sept. 2 vs. FCS-level Stephen F. Austin, followed by a Sept. 9 home game vs. North Texas. SMU goes to Fort Worth for the Battle for the Iron Skillet vs. TCU on Sept. 16, followed by a home game vs. Arkansas State on Sept. 23. The game against the Red Wolves is the first part of a home-and-home series.
SMU starts AAC play at home vs. Connecticut on Sept. 30. Road games at Houston on Oct. 7 and Cincinnati on Oct. 21 follow, with a bye week in between. The Mustangs host Tulsa in their lone Friday game of the year on Oct. 27, then host UCF on Nov 4. After a two-game road trip to Navy (Nov. 11) and Memphis (Nov. 18), SMU ends its regular season at home vs. Tulane on Nov. 25.
If SMU wins the AAC West Division, it will play in the conference championship game on Dec. 2.
Eight of the teams on SMU's schedule played in a bowl game in 2016: North Texas, TCU, Arkansas State, Houston, Tulsa, UCF, Navy and Memphis. Five of SMU's eight games vs. 2016 bowl teams are at home.
