2018 Oklahoma defensive lineman Israel Antwine talks SMU interest

Hatts talked with 2018 Millwood (Okla.) defensive tackle Israel Antwine about his SMU interest and recruitment.

After visiting a couple times in the past year, 2018 Millwood HS (Okla.) defensive tackle Israel Antwine picked up an offer from SMU as one of three on the same day earlier this month.

“SMU has a pretty good program, I’m very interested in their school,” Antwine told PonyStampede, “I went there last year and I saw their football game and they have a pretty good football team.”

The Oklahoma defensive tackle was in attendance for SMU’s biggest home win in years against Houston and came away impressed with what he saw.

“It was a pretty good atmosphere, it was my first time being out there at SMU and it was pretty impressive,” Antwine said, “They have a good team, good coaches and I met coach Loepp and he’s a pretty good guy and a pretty good coach.”

Since his visit last year, the 6-2, 285-pound lineman has developed a good relationship with coach Loepp as the two talk regularly in a variety of ways.

“We both talk and text, sometimes more regularly and he says I’m a good football player and he can’t wait to have me up there,” Antwine said.

Despite a busy schedule recently, Antwine was able to make it up for SMU’s prospect day before heading over to the Nike Opening.

“My dad and I went up there to SMU and we saw both coach Loepp and the defensive coach there,” Antwine told PonyStampede, “I like their locker room and their whole facility, afterwards my dad and I got the chance to watch them practice.”

The Oklahoma lineman is not sure yet whether he will be after to make it to SMU’s spring game on April 8th, given he is planning to take a lot of visits to different schools over the next couple of weeks.

“I would, but there are so many other schools interested in me and I have to get a chance to visit them too,” Antwine said.

In addition to SMU, Antwine has picked up offers from Arkansas State, Louisiana-Monroe, Missouri, Ole Miss, South Dakota, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas Southern, Tulsa and Iowa State.

In hopes of continuing to gain attention, Antwine is working on getting stronger and improving his technique heading into next season.
