2018 Ft. Worth (Tex.) Paschal defensive back Jalen Rispress only needed his offer and a visit from SMU to know it was the place for him, committing to Chad Morris and the Mustangs on Friday.
"It was definitely the coaches. As soon as I got there, I just felt like at home. I knew that was a place for me," Rispress said. "Just talking to them, I felt like I've been knowing them for the longest when I had just met them."
The 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back for Paschal will play SMU's Star linebacker position and is excited to be in a good spot to make plays.
"I've been playing it for so long, it's like my natural position," Rispress said. "I like to hit of course and it's close to the ball so I can hit anything in my sight, but I can cover if needed."
Keith Gunn and Archie McDaniel talk to "J.C." the most and were excited about him committing.
"Really cool people. Both with great personalities," Rispress said. "I like his (McDaniel's) enthusiasm. I'm a high-energy player on and off the field and he's like an older me. They were saying they want to do backflips down the hallway. They can't wait to coach me."
From the campus to the law program, Rispress said he likes everything about the atmosphere on The Hilltop.
"Their law program as well because I want to major in law and that their law school is very good," Rispress told Scout. "Random people you don't know also speak to you and that's pretty cool. I like the atmosphere and campus. Campus is amazing."
Now that Rispress is committed, he's going to start working other kids and recruiting them to join the SMU class.
"I'm going to try my best to get other guys committed here now."
Baylor, UL-Lafayette, North Texas and Texas Tech have shown interest in Rispress. He doesn't have any visits set anywhere except SMU when he will return for the spring game on April 8.
Rispress is SMU's sixth commitment in the 2018 class, joining Louisiana defensive lineman Kemon Smith, John Tyler linebacker Tre Allison and Colleyville (Tex.) Heritage cornerback Marcus Mosley on the defensive side. SMU also has commitments from quarterback Will Brown and wide receiver Michael Woods.
