2018 Cibolo (Tex.) Steele cornerback JayVeon Cardwell visited SMU for their spring scrimmage on April 1 and came away impressed after meeting with Chad Morris and Van Malone on the visit.
"It was a great visit. I loved meeting coach Morris and coach Malone 1 on 1 and the corner backs that I would be playing with," Cardwell told Scout. "They told me how SMU operates, and how they love film, and they think I will be a great fit for their team in the future."
The 6-foot, 170-pound cornerback said the scrimmage was up-tempo and that he liked that aspect of it, along with how hard the coaches coach.
"I liked it because they do an up tempo style of practice and did different situations throughout the whole time I was there and treated it like it was a real game," the three-star prospect said. "All the coaches were very enthusiastic and were very critical about their players by telling each of them what they need to improve on and what they did well."
So where does the visit leave SMU for the No. 12 cornerback in Texas?
"SMU is high on my list I enjoyed the visit and I really liked the way the coaches treated my parents and I," Cardwell said. "To me, it was a very solid visit and I will be back." http://www.scout.com/college/southern-methodist/story/1758052-fast-risin...
Cardwell also visited Vanderbilt recently and enjoyed his time in Nashville.
"It was great. Coach mason and Mattioli were great. I got a lot of personal time and stuff with the staff," Cardwell said. "They showed me and my dad a lot of love. I liked the fast tempo practice and coaching and my degree program is there."
Houston, Texas Tech and TCU are other schools showing interest. Cardwell visited Houston last weekend. The junior said he doesn't have a set decision timeline.
