Four star 2019 Allen (Tex.) quarterback Grant Tisdale visited SMU about four weeks ago, and enjoyed it. He went with some of his Allen teammates, and the cozy campus appealed to him.
"We really enjoyed ourselves; It's a pretty nice college," Tisdale said. "I like the family atmosphere. The coaches are about the players. The campus is small; everybody knows everybody there. It's a family atmosphere."
At his visit, Tisdale talked to coaches Joe Craddock and Chad Morris. The two coaches expressed their interest in Tisdale.
"They really like me," he said. "They want to get me down there a couple more times just to show me around campus and show me how college life is."
SMU got a commitment from 2018 quarterback Will Brown, as well as bringing in Austin Upshaw in 2017. But quarterback competition at SMU, or any other school, will not scare off Tisdale.
"I'm the type of guy that likes competition," he said. "Competition makes me better. If there's competition I'm willing to go anywhere. Cause there's gonna be competition wherever you go. You gotta be willing to face that. You can't escape that."
Tisdale currently has offers from UNT, Mississippi State, Texas Tech and Indiana State in addition to SMU. But some bigger schools are coming after Tisdale. He mentioned Oklahoma State, Florida, Notre Dame and Washington among schools that are showing him interest right now. However, Tisdale will not cross off small schools if he gets offered by bigger ones.
"I'm still open to everybody," Tisdale said. "Just give everybody a fair shot. If people take a chance on recruiting me I'm giving them a fair shot."
When asked to describe his playing style, the 6-0 198 pound quarterback made it clear that what matters most to him is winning.
"I'm cool calm and collected," he said. "Also competitive. I don't like losing. That's just not a part of me. I'm a winner."
