One of Texas's top high school quarterback prospects has two early favorites, one from a school that has offered and the other one that hasn't.
San Antonio's Alamo Height's signal caller Drew Allen confirmed with PonyStampede.com Thursday that there are two teams that lead for his services.
"Right now Ole Miss and Wake Forest are my two favorites," Allen explained. "Wake Forest has already offered and they are a great school. I'm waiting for an offer from Ole Miss. I have a great relationship with the Ole Miss coaching staff."
Allen is currently holding two official offers, one from the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest and the other New Mexico State and Hal Mumme.
"It's an honor to get an offer from Coach Mumme," Allen said. "The quarterback is so important in his offense. It's a great offense to play in."
While he has two offers, it appears it's the one he is waiting on that intrigues him the most.
"I really think an offer from Ole Miss could be on the way," Allen said. "I talk to Coach (Ken) Austin all the time. They showed me such a great time while I was on campus. I fell in love with the campus, the school and the coaching staff while I was there. They made me feel very comfortable and very much at home."
There is another instate school that the Texas gunslinger is hoping that interest will increase with.
"I haven't heard as much from SMU as I thought I would," Allen said. "Of course I would have interest in playing for June Jones. What quarterback wouldn't? Hopefully their interest in me will increase over the next couple of months."
Allen recently traveled to Dallas and attended the Mustang's Junior Day and was impressed with the Hilltop.
"SMU is a great school," Allen said. "Two things I'm looking for is a passing offense, one with a great quarterback coach and a great academic situation. SMU fills those needs for me."
As a junior, Allen passed for 2,589 yards and 28 touchdowns and added an additional 254 yards and five touchdowns on the ground to earn All-District honors.
Allen has attended several Scout.com Under Armour events and recently ran a 4.16 shuttle.
"I loved the Scout.com events," Allen said. "They were well run and I got the opportunity to compete against some the best athletes in the state."
Allen has already scored a 26 on the ACT and has a 3.9 G.P.A on a 4.0 scale.
