"They were the best Division One School that offered me, and Coach Jones is there, it was an easy choice." Lunday told PonyStampede.com Wednesday night.
Lunday is a smaller back at 5'9, 180, but he makes up for it with 4.4 speed. He rushed for 1,453 yards and 12 touchdowns his senior year as running back at Sheridan High School in Arkansas. He has what ESPN.com termed as a "slippery elusiveness".
Although a running back in high school, "The coaches are talking about putting me at slot receiver, but we will have to wait and see where they decide to put me." Lunday said.
On signing day, Coach June Jones echoed the sentiment that it is Lunday's speed that led him to offer him.
"Bryce played running back primarily at his high school. I look at him like I looked at Ricky Sanders with the Houston Gamblers. He was a running back that had only caught about ten balls when we asked him to come play slot receiver for us. Bryce Lunday looked like that type of runner when I looked at him on film. As you can see in the stats he was very productive."
Lunday was also impressed with the campus, "It is beautiful there, I loved it." He said he does not have any family in the Dallas area, but, "Arkansas is not that far," he said, "we can manage."
The new signee's goals coming to SMU are pretty simple, "Do the very best I can and help get us to a BCS Bowl Game!"
Lunday has a 3.9 GPA and scored a 25 on his ACT. He plans to major in Political Science, and possible lead that into a career in Law.
