While at Hawaii June Jones had a reputation of searching the country for top quarterback prospects, it appears things haven't changed since Jones' arrival on the Hilltop.
The Mustangs are expected to host some of the top signal callers in the country next month at SMU's summer camps; one Colorado prospect confirmed he will be attending camp on the Hilltop.
Colorado's Jerry Slota has already taken one visit to the Dallas campus and plans on returning next month to be coached by Coach Jones.
"I will be attending SMU's summer camp on June 14th," Slota told PonyStampede.com Monday night. "Coach (Dan) Morrison has been recruiting me, he told me that they have a lot of interest in me and want me to attend their camp. I can't wait to be coached by him and Coach Jones."
Slota recently attended the Elite 11 camp this past weekend at Cal Berkley, turning in an outstanding performance.
"It was a great camp," Slota said. "I did well; I competed against the very best in the nation and had a great showing."
Slota has a friend already attending SMU, giving the talented signal caller a perfect opportunity to visit the Dallas campus for the Mustang's Junior Day.
"SMU has a picture perfect campus," Slota said. "I absolutely love the school. It's the way I had always pictured the way a college campus should be in my mind."
Slota is very intrigued by Jones' offense that he has brought to Dallas.
"I have kept up with his success for a long time," Slota explained. "He is the type of coach I would love to play for. I love the offense that they run."
Slota was also impressed with the coaching staff on his visit to Dallas.
"I liked them a lot," Slota said. "They are very energized and fired up about being at SMU. I truly feel that SMU fans are in store for some championships in the near future."
SMU is definitely high on Slota's favorite list.
Slota is a 6-foot-3, 220-pound athlete that runs a 4.7 forty. He ended his junior season with over 600 yards; he played most of the season in an arm sling with a broken arm.
"It was a tough season," Slota said. "I'm looking forward to having a great senior season."
Slota currently has no official offers.
