It's evident that June Jones is making recruiting the Dallas area a priority with his coaching staff.
Another metroplex prospect Mesquite's Marcus Trice recently received an offer from Southern Methodist University.
"SMU offered me last Friday," Trice told PonyStampede.com Wednesday. "I was really excited actually, I realize what kind of academic programs they have there and I'm confident that Coach Jones is going to turn around their football program."
Trice has academics as a priority in his decision making process, and wants to make sure that he gets a quality education.
"You can't get a lot better degree than the one you can get at SMU," Trice said. "They have a strong academic reputation, that's important to me."
Trice, a 5-foot-9, 170-pound athlete that runs a 4.5 forty, mainly played defense and returned punts and kick offs for the Skeeters last fall. Expect that to change his senior season.
"My coaches at Mesquite are telling me I will see action both ways," Trice said. "I will still return punts and kickoffs. SMU wants me as a defensive back but to see some offensive action as well."
Trice has been to the Dallas campus several times and admits that he is very impressed with what SMU has to offer.
"It's such a beautiful campus," Trice said. "From the neat buildings, to how green the grass looks and let's not forget how beautiful the girls are there. Everything get an A plus with me."
Trice got a chance to watch the Mustangs practice this spring at SMU's Junior Day.
"They are going to be an exciting team to watch this fall," Trice said. "I love their offense, and they love to fly around on defense."
A chance to play close to home would be nice also.
"I'm actually from St. Louis, but I have a lot of extended family here in Dallas," Trice said. "It would be great to play college ball in this city."
"I definitely have a lot of interest in SMU," Trice said. "Right now I don't really have a favorite. I have a lot more research to do about other colleges and I want a chance to get to know the coaching staffs better."
Trice is a good student. He currently holds a 3.0 G.P.A. and is awaiting his SAT scores.
