Southern Methodist University new Head Football Coach June Jones is known for his high octane offenses while at Hawaii and in the NFL.
Jones is expected to bring the same exciting offensive style to the Hilltop in Dallas, attracting a lot of prospects at two different positions.
Quarterbacks and wide receivers are lining up to play for Jones; several top athletes at both positions are expected to be in attendance this week at the Mustangs inaugural instructional camp under the new coaching staff.
"I will be at the SMU camp on Saturday," Walker said. "I have a lot of interest in SMU; they are definitely one of my top favorites."
Walker, a 6-foot-2, 195 athlete with 4.5 speed, turned in over 500 yards of receiving last fall and scored nine touchdowns for his Westlake team. He earned First team All-District honors for his efforts.
The talented wide out was able to attend the Mustangs Junior Day and came away impressed with things on the SMU campus.
"It was really nice," Walker said. "I loved the locker room. I really like the coaching staff, Coach Jones is going to do great things at SMU."
"I think SMU is very close to offering," Walker said. "Hopefully I can show them this weekend what they are looking for."
Will Walker think about pulling the trigger and committing to the Mustangs if given an offer?
"There is a good chance I might commit," Walker said. "It's definitely one of the offers I'm looking for. I plan on checking out the two Academy Schools in the next couple of weeks."
One thing that is important to Walker is academics; he plans on majoring in business.
"SMU is a great opportunity academically," Walker said. "It's a place that is good for me both athletically and academically. I couldn't ask for a better situation."
Walker has already scored an 1110 on the SAT and currently holds a 3.96 G. P. A.
