Colby Long, the defensive end from Centennial High School in Frisco, is still waiting to receive his first offer to play Division 1 football.
However, at 6'3", 230 lbs, Long shouldn't have many problems attracting offers from some of the area's top schools.
"I want to go to a school that isn't too far from home; my family is a top priority. Also, I just want an all-around college experience. I want to get along well with the coaches, and of course I want the academics to be good," Long told PonyStampede.com on Thursday morning.
Hailing from Frisco, SMU certainly fits the description of where Long wants to go to school. "SMU is very high on my interest level. I really liked the facilities and the coaches when I went there. The coaching staff was very welcoming to me, and I know SMU has better academics than some of the other schools."
Other than good size, Long is also pretty quick off the ball. He runs a 4.8 40-yard dash, and has high expectations for next year.
"I want to help lead my team to a district title, and I want to earn all-district honors. This is my last year of high school, so I really want to make it count. Also, I have to decide where I want to spend the next four years of my life. It's a lot of pressure, but I'm up to the challenge."
College will certainly be a good fit for Colby Long. He can tear it up on the football field, and he also boasts strong academic prowess. He recently received his SAT scores where he earned a 1290 on the math and verbal combined. He also has a 3.2 GPA.
