A look inside Conference USA action this week

East Carolina is the hottest team in Conference USA after defeating two nationally ranked teams in Virginia Tech and West Virginia. Go inside to check out all the action in Conference USA this week. Try to match our expert on picking each game each week.

East Carolina has earned a lot of respect for Conference USA. Skip Holtz in his fourth year as the head coach of the Pirates has already two major upsets to start out the new season.

Holtz defeated Virginia Tech the first week of the season and defeated West Virginia last week. This week his team starts conference play against Tulane.

East Carolina at Tulane

Expect the Pirates to continue their winning ways against Tulane. Despite the Wave staying close to the Tide in their 20-6 loss to Alabama last week, they won't have enough fire power to stay close to the Pirates.

My prediction: East Carolina 38- Tulane 21

Air Force at Houston (Game to be played at SMU)

A displaced game due to the inclement weather by Hurricane Ike on the coast, this game will be played Saturday in Dallas. Houston enters the game 1-1 after losing a high scoring affair to Oklahoma State last weekend. Expect the Cougars to have another high scoring day; they probably will score as many points as they have fans at the game.

My prediction: Houston 45-Air Force 21

Memphis at Marshall

The Tigers of Memphis finds themselves 0-2 going into this crucial conference USA bout. After losing to Rice last week, following an opening season loss to Ole Miss, Tommy West my regroup his troops for this one. It's a must win situation for Memphis. A loss at Marshall could signal the beginning of the end of the West era in the Bluff City.

My prediction: Memphis 31-28 over Marshall

Rice at Vanderbilt

What a surprise game this is. Both teams find themselves 2-0 for the first time in a very long time going into this battle. The winner gets a scholarship to Harvard. Noted as the Scholar Bowl, Rice has defeated SMU and Memphis to earn its undefeated status. Vanderbilt has defeated Miami of Ohio and South Carolina. Who is the stronger smarter team; you would expect the SEC team to be.

My prediction: Vandy 31-20 over Rice

SMU at Texas Tech

The 1-1 Mustangs take on the No. 12 team in the country this week. This game features two high powered offenses. One belonging to the young Ponies and the other to the matured Raiders, pitting the old and wise against the young and learning.

My prediction: Texas Tech 56- SMU 28

Southern Miss at Arkansas State

Who would imagine that Arkansas State would be entering the contest at 2-0? It might have been a battle between undefeated teams if the Golden Eagles didn't have to play Auburn the week before. Despite playing well at Auburn, Southern Miss dropped a 27-13 decision the highly respected Auburn Tigers. Arkansas State defeated Texas A &M at College Station and dismantled Texas Southern 83-10 last week.

My prediction Southern Miss 45-42 over Arkansas State

UAB at Tennessee

UAB better be getting a very big pay check for having to listen to Rocky Top played 85 times in one evening. Whoever made the Blazers schedule should have to suit up themselves.

My prediction: Tennessee 45-21 over UAB

After taking off last week due to a death in my family, my record so far on my picks are currently 7-2.
