Fall is in the air, the cool weather helping provide a little extra pep in everyone's step.
Southern Methodist University head coach June Jones appeared pleased with his teams return to the practice field Tuesday morning in the Mustangs preparation for rival TCU this week.
"What a great day," Jones speaking of the weather. "Our guys seem to be getting better each practice. They are learning the system and what we expect from them."
SMU spent an hour on the field after spending time in the classroom reviewing the film of last weeks games.
"It's not hard to get these guys up for TCU," Jones said. "Anytime you play a rival, as a coach you really don't have to do a lot. The guys do that themselves."
Spending the first half of practice going over what they had watched in the film room, the Mustangs completed the spirited workout session on a high note.
When asked what his game plan was for this weeks game with TCU, Jones responded with a smile.
"To throw the ball to our receivers, to the right color jerseys," Jones said laughing. "Bo continues to get better, our defense is playing better, we just have to cut out our turnovers."
Jones, although in his first year at SMU, realizes what this game means to a lot of fans from both schools.
"We know how TCU feels towards SMU," Jones said yesterday. "They will be fired up to play their best game against us and we will have to be at our best to beat them."
Jones will put his troops through two more days of practice before a walkthrough session on Friday.
Game time for the Annual DFW State Farm Duel "The Battle for the Iron Skillet" will be at 7 p.m. at Gerald Ford Stadium on the campus of SMU.
