Local player getting close to a SMU offer?

June Jones has made a push to keep metroplex prospects close to home, already receiving several area commitments. One area high school athlete appears near to an SMU offer, the Mustangs are currently have a big need on the defensive side of the ball. Go inside to see who is nearing an offer from SMU.

Several of the area's top prospects were on hand to watch SMU's best performance of the season, as the Mustangs took undefeated Tulsa to the wire before dropping a heartbreaking 37-31 decision to the Conference USA leader.

Grand Prairie's Prestin Brown, a defensive end/linebacker appears to be close to receiving an offer from SMU.

Brown was on hand Saturday night's game between SMU and Tulsa and left the game even more impressed with the Mustangs than ever before.

"It was one of the coolest games I have ever been to," Brown told PonyStampede.com. "They should have won the game. I love how the SMU coaches coach their players, the Mustang fans were into the game at the end."

Brown, a 6-foot-4, 230 defensive player, plays defensive tackle for his Grand Prairie High School team. According to Brown, SMU is recruiting him as a linebacker or defensive end.

While Brown has no official offer from any schools so far, the talented athlete who runs a 4.67 forty feels he is close to getting an offer from the Mustangs.

"Coach (Wes) Suan told me that an offer could happen in the next couple of weeks," Brown said. "I took them one of my highlight tapes yesterday; they watched it before the game and liked what they saw."

Other schools that are currently showing interest in Brown other than SMU are Fresno State, Utah State, Southern Mississippi, TCU and UCF.

"SMU is definitely one of my favorites so far," Brown said. "SMU is a great place to get a quality education and it's close to home."

Brown currently has a 3.6 G.P.A and has already qualified with his recent SAT score.
