With 22 commitments from prospects for its 2009 recruiting class, the SMU coaching staff is in search of some defensive help.
One prospect that fits that bill is Garland's defensive end Chad Brown. The 6-foot-4, 235-pound athlete who runs a 4.7 forty, has currently helped his high school team to an undefeated record.
Brown was one of several prospects that were in attendance at the Mustang's game against Tulsa this past Saturday. It appears that Brown may be on the verge of receiving an offer from SMU.
"They seem very close to offering me," Brown told PonyStampede.com. "I love it there, it was a great game, and I thought they should have won the ballgame."
"I would be tickled to death to get an offer from SMU," Brown said. "They have always been one of my favorites."
Brown has a friend and former teammate that has already made his pledge to the Mustangs. Brown was a sophomore when he and Marquis Frazier were teammates at Garland.
"We are really good friends," Brown said. "We have talked about playing together at the college level. It would be great to play next to him again. We make a great duo on the defensive line."
Brown got a chance to check out the campus this past weekend and came away very impressed.
"I love the campus, it's so beautiful," Brown said. "I really like how friendly the coaches are. Those are the type coaches I would love to play for."
