One high school prospect seemed very much at home last Saturday at Gerald Ford Stadium for the Houston/SMU football game.
Decked out in a SMU t-shirt, DeSoto offensive lineman Chris Atchinson appeared to be very comfortable around his future teammates and coaching staff.
So comfortable in fact that he was overheard saying that he has decided not to look at any other schools, that he had found his home.
"Right now I don't plan on taking any other official visits other than SMU," Atchinson told PonyStampede.com in a recent interview. "I feel a part of the SMU family already, I'm not interested in any other school, and SMU is the place for me."
Atchinson got a chance to visit with Mustang's head coach June Jones before the ballgame, a visit that went very well.
"Coach Jones told me that I was one of their top recruits for this upcoming class," Atchinson said. "He told me that I need to be in the best shape of my life and be ready next summer and fall so I can make a big impact on this team next season."
How does Jones' compliments make Atchinson feel?
"It makes me feel real good," Atchinson said. "For him to think so highly of me."
Atchinson is very pleased with his senior season at DeSoto so far, feeling he has made a big improvement over last year.
"I'm finishing blocks a lot better this fall," Atchinson said. "I have gotten better because of hard work; I have worked hard to have my best season yet."
Atchinson has dominated on the field so far, recording over 35 offensive pancake blocks or other wise known as knock downs.
According to Atchinson the SMU coaching staff is telling him to be ready to play one of the guard positions next fall.
"They want me to play guard," Atchinson said. "This team has improved each week. They are headed in the right direction. I can't wait to be a part of it."
Atchinson has also been working hard in the classroom.
"My studies are going great," Atchinson said. "I will take the ACT and SAT next month."
The standout offensive lineman has already set his official visit with the Mustangs.
"My family and I will take an official visit to SMU on December 5th," Atchinson said. "That's the only official trip I plan on making."
