SMU is in need of defensive help.

Defensive tackle Blake Cogswell of Shreveport Evangel High School took an unofficial to the Hilltop this past weekend.

"It was good," Cogswell said Sunday afternoon. "I definitely liked it a lot, I was truly impressed with the campus and the support they have."

Cogswell traveled from Louisiana with his girlfriend, they got the chance to watch the first half before having to return home.

"I really like the defensive scheme they run," Cogswell said. "I could see myself fitting in well, they have several good players."

Cogswell, who is currently committed to Louisiana Monroe, hasn't changed his pledge status to the in-state school.

"I'm still a soft commitment to ULM," Cogswell told PonyStampede.com. "I didn't really think about making a new pledge to SMU, I'm not going to rush it. I have decided to take an official visit to SMU. I will make a decision after that."

Cogswell enjoyed his visit to Dallas and likes the campus.

"It was a beautiful campus," Cogswell said. "I really enjoyed meeting Coach (June) Jones, he is a very interesting guy.

When asked what stands out about SMU, the talented defensive tackle was quick to answer.

"If I end up going to SMU it will be because of the quality of education I would receive there," Cogswell said. "They have a great academic reputation; it would be a top of the line education. They also have the major I'm looking for."

Cogswell currently holds offers from ULM, Vanderbilt, Louisiana Tech, SMU, TCU and Oklahoma State.

Cogswell, a 6-foot-3, 285-pound athlete who runs a 4.8 forty, has racked up 48 tackles, 6 sacks and 28 tackles for losses so far this season.
