Scott impressed with academics at SMU

Since committing to Southern Methodist University back in May, James Scott of Houston Strake Jesuit has made it clear that he was a solid pledge for the Mustangs. That commitment got even stronger, if that's possible, this past weekend after his official visit to the Hilltop. What other SMU commitment is Scott good friends with, for that answer and many more go inside to see what Scott had to say.

Since committing to Southern Methodist University back in May, James Scott of Houston Strake Jesuit has made it clear that he was a solid pledge for the Mustangs.

That commitment got even stronger, if that's possible, this past weekend after his official visit to the Hilltop.

"It's all about academic prestige for me," Scott said. "My education is very important; the quality of education I will get from SMU has always been a major factor in my decision."

What impressed Scott during the weekend visit?

"I loved the presentation made by Vicki on being a student athlete," Scott said. "Student comes first; her presentation on academics was outstanding."

While academics are important to Scott, he also enjoyed getting to know the coaching staff at SMU a lot better over the weekend.

"I got a chance to sit down and visit with several of the coaches one on one," Scott said. "We got to see the entire campus; I didn't realize how beautiful it was."

Scott also enjoyed his one on one time with Coach June Jones.

"He told me to be prepared and be ready to play right away," Scott said. "He told me to be in the best shape of my life and be ready for an opportunity to play and make an impact early."

Scott and Jones spoke about one of his good friends back home in Houston.

"Darius Johnson and I are close friends," Scott said. "Darius is still playing in the playoffs. We are looking forward to being on the same team together."

So is Scott's pledge reaffirmed after the visit?

"Most definitely," Scott said. "Not like it needed to be. SMU is the place for me; there isn't any doubt about that."

Scott also enjoyed getting to know some of his future teammates.

"Braden Smith was my host, what a great guy," Scott said. "He answered all my questions, his passion and love for SMU is amazing. I can't wait to get there and start working out with the team during the summer."
