Mustangs win USA matchup against Tulane

Derek Williams scored 17 points to lead SMU to a 60-51 win over Tulane on Saturday night. The Mustangs shot 78.9 percent from the floor in the second half, hitting 15-of-19 shots in the period. SMU also had 10 blocks, which is the most for Ponies in a Conference USA game.

The Mustangs shot 78.9 percent from the floor in the second half, hitting 15-of-19 shots in the period. SMU also had 10 blocks, which is the most for Ponies in a Conference USA game. Bamba Fall had a season-high tying five blocks. The 51 points was also the second-fewest points allowed by SMU in a C-USA contest.

Williams was 6-of-11 from the field, including 2-of 3-from 3-point range. He also had four assists, four rebounds, and a blocked shot. Paul McCoy added 13 points for the Mustangs (6-9, 1-2 Conference USA).

Robinson Louisme scored 19 points to lead Tulane (7-10, 1-3). He was 8-for-12 from the field. Kevin Sims scored 10 points.

McCoy, Bamba Fall and Papa Dia had seven rebounds apiece to lead SMU, which outrebounded Tulane 40-29. Dia added eight points, two assists, a block, and a steal. Fall scored four points, five blocks, a career-high tying three assists, and a steal. Mouhammad Faye totaled eight points, five rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and an assist.

The Green Wave hit just 33 percent from the field. SMU shot 54 percent for the game.

The Mustangs next game is at Marshall on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT. The Ponies return home for a nationally-televised game on CBS College Sports against East Carolina on Saturday at 4 p.m.
