Crockett coach Paul Parsons said Tuesday that senior athlete Ja'Gared Davis (6-0, 200) has committed to SMU. Davis played three positions – outside linebacker, free safety and strong safety – for Crockett in 2008.

Davis was second on the team in tackles with 100 (eight for loss). He also had four interceptions and four pass breakups. He earned All-District 20-3A co-defensive MVP for his efforts.

"He's an explosive athlete," Parsons said. "He's a phenomenal leaper, fast and an intelligent, smart kid."

Parsons said that Davis will likely play linebacker at SMU. Davis' versatility came up big in 2008 as Crockett battled though several injuries on the defensive side.

Davis earned all-state honors as a junior linebacker. He led the team in tackles (119), had five fumbles recoveries, caused five fumbles and scored four times on defense.

"He can cover and play in space," Parsons said.
