PonyStampede.com reported weeks ago that Madill Oklahoma running back Darryl Fields (6-2, 195 pounds) had received an offer from SMU. Tonight, the running back talked with us about his thoughts on the Mustangs and what he is looking for in a school.

"I got my offer from SMU about three weeks ago. I know they could use a back in the next couple of years and I know they are rebuilding their team. That would be something I would be interested in," stated Fields to PonyStampede.com. "I could definitely see myself being a Mustang. It sounds pretty good."

Fields had 147 carries last season for 1,267 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also had a handful of catches out of the backfield and one receiving score. His effort helped the Wildcats to an 8-3 record, before losing in the first round of the playoffs. He currently has offers from SMU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Kansas State, Rice, and Arkansas.

"I want to part of a team that is trying to turn it around and get better. I want to be part of a team that is looking really hard to win and works out hard. SMU seems like a perfect fit," said Fields. "They are really trying to turn it around. From what I have seen at this point, they work pretty hard and want to win."

The junior was supposed to be on the Hilltop for the spring game, but due to one of his family members getting ill, he stayed home. He hopes to visit SMU sometime this summer, along with Texas Tech, Arkansas, and Tulsa.

Fields also plays forward on the basketball team and runs track. This weekend he will be competing in his high school track team's regional tournament. He hopes to advance to the state tournament in the 100, 200, 400, 4x100,and 4x200. Currently he holds the Madilll school record in the 400 with a 49.4 and in the 200 with a 21.87.

"I either want to make my decision right after the season, or possibly wait a while to visit some schools after football," said Fields. Don't look for a commitment right away from the running back. His plans right now are to take almost all of his official visits.

PonyStampede.com will have more on Darryl Fields as it becomes available.
