At the pace they are on now, SMU should be done with their 2009 recruiting efforts by Friday. All jokes aside, the Mustangs received their 15th commitment in the 2009 class today from Troup high school athlete Der'rikk Thompson. The junior is 5'11, weighs 188-pounds, and claims a 4.37 forty time. Besides for SMU, he also had offers from ULM and Northwestern State.

"I wanted to make a decision before my senior year got started. I didn't want to be thinking about it," stated Thompson to PonyStampede.com on Tuesday evening. "I think that I fit in really well at SMU."

An accomplished track star, Thompson qualified for the Texas High School State Meet in the 100 meters with a personal best time of 10.5. Troup uses this amazing athletes in many ways including as a: cornerback, wide receiver, slot back, kick returner, and punt returner.

"I think SMU is going to try me first at slot receiver, and if I don't fit the mold there, they are going to move me to cornerback. I think that I would prefer slot receiver," said the soon to be senior. "Coach Mason was very excited that I finally decided to be a Mustang. He told me that it was going to be huge for the program."

PonyStampede.com will have more on Thompson in a few days. We are currently trying to request some video from his coaching staff.
