) - The SMU Mustangs kicked off fall practice on Saturday, August 8, with a two-hour workout. The Mustangs opened with a fitness test, including 220s, which are 10 down-and-backs the length of the field, each of which must be completed in under 35 seconds. After the fitness test, the Mustangs split up their offensive and defensive units, with the offense staying in Gerald J. Ford Stadium and the defense heading out to the Pettus Practice Fields.
The squads then had individual instruction before running team drills.
"All in all, I was happy with the players' conditioning today," said Head Coach June Jones. "You could really tell which guys had been here all summer working. For the first day, I was happy with what I saw."
The Mustangs have meetings this afternoon and are off on Sunday. Practice resumes at 8:30 a.m. Monday. A full camp schedule is available here.
