This is the fourth consecutive season for men's basketball to host open tryouts. Over the last three seasons, six student-athletes have joined the Mustangs' basketball squad through this opportunity.

The Mustangs are a team on the rise in 2009-10, returning a more experienced lineup with two seniors, five juniors, and six sophomores. The squad lost just one starter in Bamba Fall, a Conference USA All-Defensive Team selection. Last season, a first-year player led the team in scoring in 27 of 30 games, which was the highest percentage in the nation. Sophomore Paul McCoy led 12 times as a freshman, while this year's seniors Derek Williams(10) and Mouhammad Faye (3) combined to lead 13 times.

The schedule includes the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii, from Dec. 22-25. The Mustangs will also host South Florida, Texas A&M and TCU before beginning the Conference USA slate.
