When looking at the SMU Men's Basketball roster, you will notice that the Mustangs have very little depth at the center position. With the graduation of Bamba Fall and most of the big men being upperclassman, Coach Doherty and crew will focus much of their attention on bringing in size over the next couple of recruiting classes.

One player that SMU has seemed to target is 2011 Plano West center Geoff Groselle (6'11, 225). The bother of 2009 Citadel signee, Michael Groselle, Geoff has been attending SMU open gyms and went to their Elite camp in August.

"The camp was really well run. They had a bunch of skill work and then we played some pretty good games," stated Groselle to PonyStampede.com. "I go to SMU's open gym a lot. The facilities are really nice. Their players are petty good, I really like competing against them. It's a nice atmosphere. Coach Doherty said that they are trying to rebuild things over there and that they could find a way to use me."

A sixth man last season as a sophomore, Groselle averaged six points per game coming off the bench for his brother. Currently, he has one offer from Citadel, and schools like SMU, Texas, BYU, Utah, Texas A&M, Utah State, and Wichita State looking at him.

"I would like to make a decision before my senior year. I want to get it out of the way before so I don't have to think about it," said Groselle. "The biggest things I will be looking for is I want to see what the other players are like on the team. That is really important to me. Also education is a big thing. That is about it."

Described by scouts as a true center, Groselle said this when asked to describe his game.

"I like to run the floor and I can rebound and block shots pretty well. My jumper is pretty good. I'm not the best shooter on the floor, but it's not bad."

Plano West finished the season 30-3 last year, before being knocked out of the 5A Region I quarterfinal by Duncanville. This year, Groselle has only one team goal and one individual goal.

"I want to win state this year. That is it. Plus, I want to break some records at my high school. I want to break the scoring records and the rebounding records. I'm a captain this year."

Currently he is listing Texas, SMU, Rice, and Utah his early favorites. He will be traveling to visit Texas and Utah in the coming weeks.

Groselle plays for the Dallas Heroes and averaged around 12 points per game in AAU this sumer. PonyStampede.com will be following the junior very closely this basketball season.
