I thought we played well on Saturday. We had 148 knockdowns, which is an all-time record for us. I can't remember us having that many knockdowns before and 100 of those knockdowns came from the offensive line, which is also a record. Our kids played well.
How about the injuries. How does Teich look for this week? Probably still questionable.
Lark? Probably doubtful
All the nose guards? Stephens will be back this week. Burge is probably the furthest away from playing.
With the way Walsh played on Saturday does give you a little more flexibility at that position? I am really excited about the way Mike played. He played great. SMU is similar to Rice in that they are going to throw the ball and run the zone and some counter so Mike will hold up well against them. He is one of our stronger kids. Yarborough also did a good job. We liked what we saw out of both those guys.
The SMU game last year, because of the conditions it was played in and the way the game unfolded, do you just tell the team to forget about last year's game or can you take something from it? I think offensively they are going to do the same stuff. Defensively, even though they have the same coordinator, they have changed a bit. They are a 3-4 team now. We are not really sure how they are going to line up against us. Offensively we will see similar stuff, although I know June always has some wrinkles in there.
Did you know that Ricky is leading the nation in touchdowns? I didn't realize he had that many until I saw the stats today. He is a hard guy to tackle. We don't have many plays down there and everybody knows what we like to run, but he still finds a way to get it in.
Did Proctor earn some trust with the way he played on Saturday? He played very well. I am very excited about him. The things he did in the game are the same things he showed us in camp and spring ball. That doesn't always happen. Sometimes guys will look good in practice, but when they get in the game it doesn't transfer, but I was very encouraged with what I saw from Kriss.
Ricky seems to be able to run through defenders, while Kriss is able to run by them: They are very different quarterbacks. Kriss is probably faster than Ricky and has a little more jitterbug to him. Ricky has some shake as well, but his strength is in his hips. He just runs through people.
