Paul McCoy continued to struggle and SMU couldn't dial it from long range, as the Mustangs lost 49-44 to UTEP on Wednesday night. It drops SMU's record to 5-8 on the season.

Senior point guard Derek Williams continued to pace the Mustangs in scoring, adding a team high 14 points. Williams is now averaging 16.2 on the season.

SMU shot 42.2% from the field, compared to the Miners 42.9%. SMU was 3 for 15 from long range, 4 for 8 from the free-throw line.

Sophomore Paul McCoy, who led the Mustangs in scoring last season, finished 1-5 for 2 points. His consistency has not been there this season for SMU. Last game, the Oregon native scored 16 points, on 4-14 shooting. The game before that, just four against Army. The last 8 games, McCoy is only averaging 7 points, with two of those performances for 15 and 16 respectively.

Next up for the Ponies is a non-conference match-up with North Carolina Central. The Eagles are 2-13 on the season. Game time is scheduled for 2 P.M at Moody Coliseum.
