"A mentor of mine, Tom Martinez, who happens to be Tom Brady's quarterback coach, gave me some advice when taking visits," stated Preston to PonyStampede.com when asked about what he would be looking for on his second visit. "Slow down and forget about the football, and ask yourself if I didn't play football could I see myself going here as a student."
Preston started all 15 games for the Cavs, rarely finishing any because of so many blowouts, but still put up over 3,500 yards and over 200 yards rushing, and threw 44 touchdown passes in all.
"My mom is from Dallas, so I have always been kind of a SMU fan," said Preston. "Last spring break I went out to visit family in Dallas and I was able to take an unofficial visit at SMU. I was able to meet Coach Jones. Also, one of my coaches is friends with the SMU receivers coach Jeff Reinebold. He was a really cool guy. They just showed me around and told me what kind of quarterback I could be there. They watched my highlight tape and told me they really like me."
PonyStampede.com will have an update with Preston later tonight.
