McCann setting goals high in Dallas

"I'm happy, but it was just rookie mini-camp. It's just a whole bunch of people like me who have come out of college," said former SMU cornerback Bryan McCann in a recent interview. What are his hopes for his rookie season with the Cowboys? Come inside for the answers.

At the start of Bryan McCann's senior season, SMU fans would have not predicted a NFL rookie free agent deal in the future for the cornerback.

Fast forward to today and Cowboys fans are probably not expecting much more than a body on the roster or a practice squad member. But, McCann's goals are a bit higher.

"My goals? I want to be a starter for the Cowboys. No one is content with just making the roster. That is not my goal at all. My goal is to earn a starting spot and someday make the Pro Bowl," said the rookie to

McCann's rookie mini-camp was a success, showing on more than one occasion he could handle his own. His play against Cowboys 1st rounder Dez Bryant drew praise from head coach Wade Phillips.

"I thought McCann looked really good. He's a smart guy and he's got great speed," said Phillips. "I thought he picked some things up really quick. He was a little sore (Saturday and Sunday), but he looked pretty good."

For McCann, the approach was the same, even if Bryant was the Cowboys biggest pick.

"I'm glad that I caught his eye, but I still feel that I have a lot more to prove. I need to keep doing what I'm doing on a consistent basis and not just for three days," said McCann. "It doesn't matter who is in front of you as a corner, we have to stick to our technique and play everyone the same. That was the way I approached it with Dez. He is a first round draft pick, but at the end of the day he is just a rookie like me. So I didn't get nervous or scared. I just used the technique that Coach Campo had been teaching us all week.....I definitely feel that I have to go out and show that I can compete or even do better against guys that they drafted before me.
