SMU looks in on Northside junior

With the rate of defensive tackles being scouted by SMU this spring, it sounds like the Mustangs will have a couple good ones in the 2011 recruiting class. Earlier this week, SMU checked out Northside junior Tyler Porter. You definitely need to come learn about this defensive tackle. He is a good one!

With the rate of defensive tackles being scouted by SMU this spring, it sounds like the Mustangs will have a couple good ones in the 2011 recruiting class.

On Tuesday, SMU's Adrian Klemm and Dan Morrison checked out Serra high school in California, where not only Conner Preston goes to school, but also DT David Moala.

On the same day in Louisiana, Jeff Reinebold was checking in Northside junior defensive tackle Tyler Porter. The 6-foot-1 1/2, 295 pounder earned honorable mention 4A all-state honors last season.

"He just really wanted to come out and check on my size. There is a lot of speculation out there about my height. We didn't talk long on the phone, but he told me that if I had any questions, I should call him," stated Porter to PonyStampede.com. "He spent a long time talking to my coach and supposedly really liked my highlight tape. He's excited that I'm going to be at the camp this summer, because it will give the other coaches a chance to look at me."

Porter racked up 61 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, nine sacks, six blocked kicks, and six forced fumbles last season. He is currently hearing from SMU, Louisiana, TCU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, and Tulsa.

"I don't know much about SMU, but coach did tell me about their bowl win and bowl rings. He told me a little bit about their facilities and stuff. It sounds like a good place. I'm definitely interested in it," said Porter.

With a 5.1 forty, the 2011 prospect can bench press 375 pounds, making him a dominate player in 4A Louisiana high school football.
